Ever wanted to attend a Red Carpet event?
While the Oscars may be out of reach of most Missourians, one red carpet event is right in their back yard!
“Wishmaker” premieres Saturday night with a special Red Carpet preview at the Big Screen at the Old Kinyon School on Vine Street in Poplar Bluff.
“Wishmaker” is a short film produced through the efforts of A Kwerd Productions and Dark Hamlet Studios. It recently won the “Audience Choice Award” at the Tributary Film Festival in Sikeston. The July 11 film festival gave area amateur and professional filmmakers the opportunity to show off their skills, and showcased the talents of area actors, writers, directors and film crews.
Several of the films featured at the festival were “short films”, the same category as “Wishmaker”. Films featured at the festival included not only the Poplar Bluff film from A Kwerd Productions, but also films from Cape Girardeau like “Love Chronicles of the Cape”.
Subrina and Chris Berger of A Kwerd Productions note the idea for the “Wishmaker” film came from a discussion they had with close friend Michael Hibler of Dark Hamlet Studios.
“This was the first time we had done something like this,” explained Subrina. “But we felt it was really important because it showcased the incredible talent we have right here in Poplar Bluff.”
So, in just five months the film producers raised $2,000 and put it to work in their film featuring local actors, lighting and makeup artists, as well as Hibler’s top-notch direction and writing.
“Wishmaker” is a fantasy story about the Human and Magica people who live and work in the same world. The primary character, Detective Stark, has spent 17 years of his life chasing a ghost of a killer. It is only through the help of the Wishmaker that the detective can bring the killer to justice.
